Sometimes all we need is a tiny nudge to get started ツ Here are some printable helpers ~ grids to guide your hand, and simple shapes to spark an idea. Print one out, pick up a pencil, and see where it takes you.
Some of us love a blank page ~ the absolute freedom of it. However, some of us will find it a little too bare. Maybe a dot grid settles the mind, or a wave pattern suggests the first mark. I’ve prepared a few options for you. Four different grids and eight different visual starters.
Have a look ~ hopefully you’ll find one that suits you ツ Clicking the print link will take you to a page with options: you can select what you like, and for the grids, you can adjust the size/spacing to your preference. ~ Select and print, then doodle away.
Using a digital drawing app? Use the browser’s print option to export as PDF, or take a screenshot for an image file — both work well as a canvas layer.
Grid
Four different approaches ~ from clean dot grids to flowing waves. Each one will print out subtle enough that it won’t fight with your doodles.

Visual
Instead of a grid, why not start with a shape? Trace the line, fill in the gaps, add to it, cross-hatch, use colour ~ anything goes ~ each prompt is a beginning, a possible starting point for your doodle.
